The West Virginia Recyclers Association, Inc. (WVRA), was formed in 2010 to help promote recycling in the Mountain State, and to improve communication between recyclers, government, media and industry. New members are welcome.

Regulations for Scrap Dealers

The 2012 session of the WV Legislature saw several bills approved which affect the West Virginia scrap industry. The WVRA urges all scrap dealers to become familiar with these new regulations.

• SB 212 - This bill details the criminal offense of disrupting emergency services and is effective June 14, 2012. Read complete SB 212 text.

• HB 4345 - This bill prohibits the unauthorized sale of railroad scrap and is effective June 5, 2012. Read complete HB 4345 text here.
• SB 528 - A comprehensive bill that relates to scrap metal transactions including catalytic converters. The bill is effective June 8, 2012. Read complete SB 528 text here.
Effective June 8, 2012, the West Virginia Secretary of State must maintain a list of all state scrap dealers. Registering your scrap metal business is free, with no filing fee. The form, which can be completed online, can be used for an intial or amended registration.
